PPWC welcomes the following guest speakers to our April 4 – 8, 2022 Biennial Convention in Nanaimo, BC at the Bastion Hotel. The speakers will be presenting on Wednesday, April 6th and Thursday, April 7th at the convention.

Wednesday, April 6, 2022

9:00 a.m. Wayne Johnny Sr. (Sul si mus tun), Snuneymuxw First Nation
Wayne will be performing a ceremony at the beginning of our first day of Convention. He is an Elder and Cultural Knowledge keeper who works for the Tillicum Lelum Aboriginal Health Centre where he works with the children at the Aboriginal Head Start Program, the Men’s Wellness Program, A&D Counselling, and the Nanaimo Corrections Centre where he does cultural work at the Jail.

1:30 p.m. Sean Cain, Website and Social Media consultant for PPWC and CCU
Sean has a Masters degree in Political Science from York University. He has provided services for labour unions and progressive organizations for over twenty years in website and graphic design, video production, photography, communications and social media. He has also worked with the PPWC and CCU for more than a decade. Sean is the designer of the PPWC National website and several PPWC local websites and produced a two-part documentary on the union in 2015.

3:30 p.m. Satnam Manhas, Forest/Community Development Consultant
Satnam Is a Forest/Community Development Consultant, who was a Director of Forestry at Ecotrust Canada for 11.5 years until 2019.

11:00 a.m. Scarlett Farquhar, CCU Treasurer
Scarlett has been the treasurer for CCU since 2017 and has been a member of the CCU throughout her career. Prior to her current role with the CCU, she has been a trustee for three years, and wears many hats at her local union. She will be speaking about the history of the CCU; their current initiatives and some history of the PPWC within the CCU.

1:30 p.m. Jan Noster, President Emeritus of the Construction Maintenance and Allied Workers Canada Union (CMAW)
Jan is a Red-Seal Journeyman Carpenter by trade and holds the designation of Certified Professional in Human Resources (CPHR), along with Masters of Trust Management Standards (MTMS). Jan is also an Alumni of the Governor Generals Canadian Conference board. He has held almost every position possible in the Canadian Labour movement, including Director of Organizing, Chairman of the Board of the CMAW Benefit plan, and delegate to the Canadian Building Trades Union (AFL-CIO). He did a stint as an Executive Board member of the Communication, Energy and Paperworkers (CEP) Union and was Director of Fraser-Cascade Community Forest, just to name a few positions over the past 27 years.
