On Tuesday, September 30th from noon to 2:00 pm a special union meeting will be held at the Selkirk College Gymnasium in Castlegar.
The purpose of the meeting is to create an awareness of the many issues caused by continuous budget cuts to post secondary education.
The first hour will have keynote speakers such as:
- Katrine Conroy – NDP MLA Kootenay West,
- Arnold Bercov – National PPWC President,
- Duff Sutherland – SCFA President, and
- Mathew Jameson – Canadian Federation of Students Local #4 Representative.
Other unions will be joining our cause such as BCGEU and the Steelworkers.
The second hour will be a march from PPWC Local #1 Hall on Columbia to the Highway #3 turnoff to Nelson. Everyone is invited to join in on the march.
All supervisors have been, or soon will be, contacted through human resources to inform them of the rally. Article 3.09 of our collective agreement allows for an additional hour for such meetings four times a year. If your supervisor is unaware please forward them to Rod Fayant.
Unfortunately, due to the obvious time constraints, PPWC members from other locations outside Castlegar will probably not be able to attend. In an effort to include everyone, there is a plan to video record the rally and then post it on our website – ppwclocal26.ca. It won’t be a live stream so keep an eye for notification on when it will be posted.
There will be free burgers and smokies (first come, first served due to limited numbers) and a local musician will playing. Please spread the word as it open to all those who want to participate.
